weathering steel house ::

The Weathering Steel House, so named for its rich copper-like resonance, combines earth tone accents to create a richness in material that gives the home a completely original exterior.

Its corrugated profile for this private partial 2-storey residence was selected for it textural interest. The high-strength steel cladding and its rust ‘patina’ produces a stable outer layer under conditions of alternate wetting and drying. The result is a unique aesthetic to the steel finish.

The low entry concrete garden wall creates an engaging front entry sequence upon crossing a threshold as you advance to the main entry. Directly above, a vertical wood scrim over a large central window provides spectral screening, pattern and texture.

The ground level consists of an open main living area that offers visual and spatial connections to the adjoining outdoor amenities. A private wing of bedrooms, bathrooms and utilitarian spaces complete the main floor.

The pavilion-like 2nd level houses a communal and recreational space with access to a walk-out terrace offering full enjoyment of views to the river valley.
